Waste Water Treatment Works – Steel Grating Built to WIMES and British Standards
At a wastewater treatment site in West Sussex, Elemy was commissioned to fabricate open mesh steel grating and stair treads designed to support heavy-duty access requirements.
The client needed a grating that met both the Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specification (WIMES) and key British Standards relating to worker safety on elevated platforms.
The solution required more than just cutting panels to size, Elemy delivered a full fabrication service, including shaping, installation of kickflats, and hinged access panels for maintenance. All components adhered to BS4592-0:2006 +A1:2012 and BS EN 14122-1:2016, providing a ‘ball proof’ configuration to prevent slips and tool drops from elevated positions.
Though Elemy are specialists in GRP, this project highlighted their versatile expertise in metalwork and reinforced their status as a reliable supplier across material types.
Where steel is preferable – particularly for its higher load-bearing capacity in specific environments, Elemy can offer tailored solutions without compromising on quality or delivery.
