Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Grating Solutions by Elemy
At Elemy, our GRP grating systems provide a high-performance, long-lasting, and cost-effective solution for industrial, commercial, and public environments. GRP gratings are engineered from moulded fibreglass reinforced plastic, making them incredibly durable, corrosion-resistant, and up to 50% lighter than steel. This not only enhances safety and handling but also reduces installation time and labour costs.
Whether you’re specifying for walkways, platforms, mezzanines, or access flooring, our GRP grating panels are available in both open mesh and solid top options. The anti-slip GRP flooring sheets come with a gritted surface finish, delivering excellent traction even in wet or oily conditions. For environments requiring visual guidance, our gratings are available in a wide range of colours, including high-visibility options.
Our GRP grate flooring complies with British and international standards, including BS4592 and EN14122, and offers excellent fire-retardant and chemical resistance properties. Elemy’s grating is suitable for sectors ranging from oil & gas, utilities, and rail to food processing and marine environments.
Compared to steel, GRP grating requires no hot works, is non-conductive, and doesn’t rust or degrade, making it ideal for long-term applications with minimal maintenance. Choose from a variety of thicknesses and mesh sizes to suit your project needs.
FAQs
GRP grating is used for flooring, platforms, walkways, trench covers, and access solutions across a variety of sectors, including construction, rail, utilities, oil & gas, and marine.
Unlike steel, GRP grating is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, non-conductive, and does not require hot works for installation. It’s also lower maintenance and safer in hazardous environments.
GRP grating typically lasts 25+ years, depending on environmental conditions and usage, thanks to its resistance to corrosion, rot, and chemical degradation.
While GRP is safe to use, PPE should be worn when cutting or drilling. Cut edges should be sealed with marine varnish to prevent fibre exposure and maintain product integrity.
GRP is commonly used in rail, marine, water treatment, construction, food processing, oil & gas, and public infrastructure projects.
Elemy’s GRP grating achieves ASTM E84 Class A and BS 476 PT 7 Class 2 fire ratings, making it suitable for many applications, including underground and enclosed areas.
While the upfront cost can vary, GRP often proves more economical long-term due to lower installation, maintenance, and replacement costs.
Load capacity varies by panel type. For example, our 28mm solid top grating can span up to 1200mm at 3kN/m². Please consult Elemy for project-specific calculations.
