It was a night of celebration on Thursday as Elemy were crowned Small Tees Business of The Year at the Tees Business Awards 2023.
Held at Hardwick Hall’s Coleman Suite, the venue served as an impressive back drop for the awards ceremony which celebrated all things good within the Teesside Business scene.
Around 380 people were in attendance to see the 11 different awards announced, hosted by Pam Royle DL and Peter Barron MBE DL. Both are patrons of The North East Autism Society, which was the chosen charity of the night.
Elemy Ltd were shortlisted for Small Tees Business of The Year, alongside four other brilliant Teesside businesses: Alt Labs, AM Recruitment, Better, and Doornbos. The category was the most sought after of the night, with Tees Business revealing they’d received more than 20 different nominations.
In true ‘Brit Award Style’, each category announced was followed by a short video featuring the nominees and a bit about themselves. Shona Duncan, Head of Business Solutions for category sponsors Tees Valley Combined Authority, then announced Elemy Ltd as the winners!
This was an incredible achievement for the team and is an amazing end to only our fourth year of trading! We’ve had an amazing couple of years, graduating from a home office then to a small industrial unit, and finally with our two acre fabrication site in Redcar.
Managing Director Richard Brine said: “It was an extraordinary night to come away with Small Tees Business of the Year. As a team we were a little stunned to win, we were over the moon to be nominated and had gone there thinking we’d had a great year and worked hard, but this was the icing on the cake.”
“Credit must go to all those who have made this happen, both within Team Elemy and other stakeholders who have supported us along the way. Nothing comes without hard work and it was brilliant to be recognised at this early stage of our evolution”.
Another highlight of the evening was a speech by local legend, artist Mackenzie Thorpe. Mackenzie spoke passionately about his Teesside upbringing and the pride he still holds for the area.
“The foundations for every child, no matter their ability or disability, is not a pot of gold – a nice big car or the big TV – it’s the foundation of love.” Mackenzie shared with the crowd his hopes for Teesside’s future, and to a standing ovation, how he hopes those in the room would go out into the community and help build it.
All in all, it was a fantastic night for us to celebrate both our own awards success, but also the resilience and triumphs of the whole Teesside Business community.
